Germany’s Third Largest Mobile Operator Makes Commitment to Next Generation IP eXchange (IPX) Platform for Voice and Data Services
BURLINGTON, MASS – 06/04/2012 – Basis, a KPN company, today announced that fellow KPN subsidiary E-Plus, a leading mobile operator in Germany, has connected to iBasis multiservice IP eXchange (IPX) network. Initially, E-Plus will use the next generation network technology to send international voice traffic via this IPX connection to iBasis.
Driven by the GSMA, IPX offers an alternative to the public Internet and to the traditional TDM-based interconnection. It provides the flexibility and efficiency of IP with the security and reliable quality associated with traditional TDM networks. This is particularly significant for E-Plus and other mobile network operators as they transition to IP to capture efficiencies and support new services, such as LTE Roaming, voice over LTE, HD voice, and IP videoconferencing.
The IPX partnership with iBasis is very important for us as a Mobile Challenger, said Achim Schmitz, Head of Carrier and Premium Services of E-Plus. It enables us to gain significant efficiencies in the future by utilizing the IPXs ability to support multiple services over a single interconnect.
The iBasis IPX leverages the companys more than 15 years of experience in IP innovation. It is a secure, managed IP interconnection service based on GSMA specifications. It provides a reliable network for the companys voice and data services and a robust, interoperable platform for innovative IP-based services in the future.
Increasingly, Mobile operators are recognizing the value of IPX as an efficient and high-quality platform for current voice and data traffic and as an necessity for vital new services such as LTE Roaming and HD Voice, said Willem Offerhaus, iBasis CEO. E-Plus is a very successful and creative operator. We look forward to supporting them to accelerate the launch of exciting new services with the same security, reliability and quality their customers enjoy today.
