WARSAW, POLAND and BURLINGTON, MA, USA – 05/12/2014 – iBasis, a KPN company, and P4, a mobile network operator in Poland, today announced the launch of international high-definition (HD) voice between the mobile operators PLAY, P4s mobile brand, in Poland and KPN in The Netherlands. Subscribers of PLAY and KPN mobile can now call each other and experience the high-fidelity of HD Voice. HD Voice provides crystal clear audio by reducing background noise and delivering a wider frequency range.
The HD voice service utilizes a multi-service IPX interconnect between PLAY and iBasis and the iBasis HD-enabled Premium Voice over IPX (PVIPX) service. The PVIPX service delivers true high-fidelity voice through advanced coding technologies and mechanisms and provides all necessary transcoding between wideband and narrowband codecs to resolve any interoperability challenges across different operators networks.
“HD Voice is the most significant innovation in international voice service in many years, providing dramatic improvements in the quality of cross-border and cross-cultural communication,” said Willem Offerhaus, CEO of iBasis. “We are very pleased to work with PLAY and KPN Mobile to enable mobile callers in Poland to enjoy the remarkable quality of HD voice when calling friends, family and colleagues in Holland and vice versa.”
As more mobile operators, fixed operators and over-the-top (OTT) providers interconnect with the iBasis IPX for premium voice service, those networks can become HD destinations for all other HD networks connected to the service. In addition, iBasis mobile HD Voice coverage operates seamlessly with Voice over LTE (VoLTE ) networks, utilizing the same coding technology (AMR-WB).
“We are delighted to expand superior HD Voice quality to international calls, thanks to our cooperation with iBasis,” commented Jacek Nieweglowski, Chief Strategy Officer of PLAY. “The enthusiastic response of Play customers to the HD Voice experience fuels our efforts to broaden the reach of HD Voice services to cross-network and international calls.”
PLAY introduced HD Voice in 2012 and provides domestic HD voice service to its PLAY subscribers in Poland. KPN introduced HD Voice in its mobile network in the Netherlands in early 2012. Today, HD Voice has been deployed in more than 100 mobile networks in 71 countries, and there are more than 320 HD-Voice handset models on the market, including those from Apple, Samsung, and Nokia.
iBasis offers a full portfolio of products over its multi-service IPX platform. In addition to the HD-enabled Premium Voice over IPX service, the company provides GRX, SMS and LTE Signaling and Roaming and Voice over LTE (VoLTE).
