iBASIS Extends VoLTE Roaming Community to 5G Roaming

5G Announcements from iBASISiBASIS, the leading communications solutions provider enabling operators and digital players worldwide, is extending the breadth of the VoLTE Roaming Community by expanding its agenda into 5G roaming and inviting MNOs to online forum to shape future strategies.

At the latest Wholesale Agreements and Solutions Conference (WAS), iBASIS, a Top Tier-1 IPX operator rated by Rocco research, hosted leading mobile operators to discuss 5G roaming and how to establish a community to kick start deployments. The 5G deployment strategy topic was added to the agenda of the already established group of MNOs gathering around VoLTE and VoLTE roaming discussions, facilitated by iBASIS.

Sharing their experiences, the group of MNOs facing common problems related to technical and commercial issues on 5G and 5G roaming, rallied around the mandate to extend VoLTE Roaming Community to 5G roaming.

On the strength of its 4G leadership and partnerships with KPN, Portugal Telecom, SFR, and Altice Dominicana, iBASIS continues to build close relationships with mobile operators, helping them through their transformation agenda, and is positioned to help drive the conversation on 5G evolution from both technology and business fronts.

During the latest WAS held in Kuala Lumpur, iBASIS hosted MNOs from around the globe, with representation from every region, including both large and emerging operators. 5G first movers provided insights on their experiences, pitfalls and solutions. As a lead up to the meeting, MNOs shared their current status and future plans via an operator survey on 5G, which identified operators’ progress and multi-layered problems, from handsets to architecture, network and commercial obstacles.

“Many issues were raised regarding technical problems and commercial issues related to 5G and the new use cases 5G will bring,” comments Chris Lennartz, VP Product Management Mobile Services, iBASIS. “It is clear that it is still very early days for 5G and the mobile operator’s evolutionary journey with 5G, but that the journey will be complex, so collaboration and partnership are crucial. iBASIS can help mobile operators understand and accelerate VoLTE and 5G services.”
