iBASIS Wins “IoT Partnership of the Year” at IoT World 2020

  • Recognized for its partnership with Nordic Semiconductor for ultra-easy global IoT connectivity
  • Partnership achieves first-time validation of NB-IoT and LTE-M Low-Power Wide-Area (LPWA) use cases, generating explosive growth in development for Nordic IoT device developers

Lexington, MA – iBASIS, the leading provider of communications solutions for
operators and digital players worldwide, announced today that it won “IoT Partnership of the Year” at the second annual IoT World Awards. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, August 12 during IoT World with winners accepting their awards virtually.

iBASIS was recognized for its partnership with Nordic Semiconductor which powered ultra-easy global IoT connectivity within Nordic’s nRF9160 cellular IoT module. In less than a year, the partnership culminated in the first ever massive field testing across 24 countries, completely invalidating any question marks over cellular IoT and eSIM technology used in NB-IoT and LTE-M Low-Power Wide-Area (LPWA) use cases.

As a result of the partnership, thousands of Nordic Developers are able to integrate the Nordic module with iBASIS Open eSIM – right out of the box – as they design and build the next generation of IoT devices. Generating explosive growth in development, the iBASIS and Nordic solution leverages the iBASIS single global, remotely programmable eSIM to ensure that IoT devices are powered with the most flexible solution for the highest performance and most cost-effective IoT connectivity.

Nordic and iBASIS’ testing of iBASIS Global Access for Things™ is the first time a provider confirms that standards-based cellular technologies, including LTE-M, NB-IoT, and eSIM, are now ready for massive IoT deployment. Test markets included the U.S., France, and Finland for NB-IoT, the U.S., Canada, France, Australia, Japan, South Korea and more than 18 additional countries for LTE-M.

The iBASIS eSIM has been integrated with the Nordic development kit experience to allow developers to quickly get their development kit connected to a cellular network just about anywhere in the world. For example, the iBASIS eSIM (cellular connectivity enablement) is integrated into the Nordic nRF Cloud development environment cloud, so that setting up the Nordic LTE-M/NB-IoT modem and the iBASIS eSIM for cellular connectivity is an integrated and seamless experience. Nordic developers can also single click into an eStore to purchase more data or “top-up” the cellular data on their evaluation eSIM when needed.

“A huge congratulations to iBASIS for winning the IoT Partnership of the Year at this year’s IoT World Awards. With over 500 nominations for the awards, this is a huge achievement for iBASIS, its partner Nordic and the entire community of innovative developers they enable through the evolution of IoT.” – Zach Butler, Portfolio Director, IoT World Virtual.

“For our team, this award is validation of our work and our collaboration with Nordic,” adds Ajay Joseph, Chief Technology Officer and Head of IoT, iBASIS. “With iBASIS’ Global Access for Things, we are committed to building a rich ecosystem for all our partners. In the past year, iBASIS has more than tripled its IoT customer base, driving an explosive 600% increase in data use this past year.”
