LTE Roaming Implementation for Pan-European Connected Car Player – Cubic

Cubic Telecom offers flexible mobility solutions that power connectivity for leading Internet of things (IoT), machine-to-machine (M2M) and mobile device companies. They recently announced a partnership with Audi to deliver high-speed connectivity for Audi connect® in-car infotainment services for Audi drivers across Europe. Users will have seamless connectivity to their infotainment services and can also purchase regional or Europe-wide data plans to give them 24-7 access to Wi-Fi connectivity, personal apps and more, right from their cars.

Cubic needed robust and competitive LTE connectivity for their platform and needed a very fast implementation and roll-out in order to offer LTE Roaming with the largest LTE footprint for European drivers. As a rapidly expanding global M2M provider, Cubic operations rely on secure, multi-IMSI roaming connections and a global IPX provider who acts with urgency and is committed to cost-efficiency and outstanding technical support.

Cubic sought a partner that could deliver global coverage with high quality of experience and implement a custom solution in a very short time.  Within two months iBasis implemented IPX connections to enable fast international LTE coverage in all desired destinations. The iBasis engineering and operation teams met the challenge of deploying a complete LTE Roaming solution, including hosted Diameter Routing Agent (DRA), which enabled Cubic Telecom to offer 4G/LTE roaming quickly and with significantly lower up-front investment in equipment and operational resources.

The solution deployed by iBasis operations team a enables cars equipped with Cubic’s embedded Multi-IMSI SIM cards to leverage the iBasis LTE roaming footprint to act as Wi-Fi access points and maintain seamless, high-speed connectivity to Cubic’s platform and infotainment services as they roam among 13 countries in Europe.

The solution also takes advantage of the iBasis advanced analytics platform, InVision. InVision provides Cubic valuable subscriber insights and detailed performance analytics that enable Cubic to solve issues before impacting subscribers.

According to SNS Research, the connected car market segment is one of the fastest growing market worldwide and in Europe, generating nearly $3 billion annually by MNOs and specialist telematics service providers. According to Business Insider, the connected-car market is growing at a five-year compound annual growth rate of 45% — 10 times as fast as the overall car market. We expect that 75% of the estimated 92 million cars shipped globally in 2020 will feature internet-connection hardware.

This new digital connectivity market brings tremendous opportunities for innovative operators, but not without challenges. iBasis is already playing a role in helping Cubic overcome these challenges, and we intend to play a leading role as an enabler of global connectivity.
