Upgrading to a Modular Service Based 5G Core Architecture is the #1 MNO Requirement

During the months of January and February 2022, Kaleido Intelligence surveyed nearly 100 respondents across tier-1 operators around the world on their 5G roaming plans to learn more about their commercial and technical requirements.

There are many insights to better understand how to implement 5G roaming from an IPX, what the key requirements are in terms of support for 5G HTTP/2 signalling and network slicing.

TOP MNOs REQUIREMENTS

#1: Upgrading to a modular service based 5GC architecture
Operators will need a reliable, robust and comprehensive IPX solution to support the expected growth in roaming data traffic alongside support for newer protocols and network functions such as SEPP and HTTP/2.

#2 Ensuring the launch and testing of 5G SA
Operators are finding testing 5G SA critical in order to launch roaming rollouts using new signaling protocols and network functions.

KEY MNOs EXPECTATIONS FROM IPX PROVIDER

#1:  5G signalling support via HTTP/2
Operators will need a reliable, robust and comprehensive IPX solution to support the expected growth in roaming data traffic alongside support for newer protocols and network functions such as SEPP and HTTP/2. Around 33% of respondents believed that 5G signaling support via HTTP/2 is the #1 requirements in terms of key expectations from their IPX vendor.

#2: Network Slicing Support
IPX vendor’s ability to support advanced network-slicing functions was found to be the next most important requirement. Network slicing, where a portion of the available network is sold and run as a separate entity from the rest of the network, will enable the mobile operator to provide a truly global network service.
